89. Mukut Mukharbind Temple
Mukut Mukharbind Temple is located in the small town of Jatipura on
the way of Circumambulation. The front gate of the temple is adorned with huge
image of Lord Krishna commemorating the pastime of lifting Govardhan Hill on
his little finger to protect the people of Braj from the anger of Lord
Indra. Mukh means Face and arvinda means lotus flower. Thus
this temple is dedicated to the lotus like face of Lord Giriraj. Like the other
Govardhan temples, the presiding deities of the temple are in the form of two
shilas (rocks from Govardhan hill) one outlining the crown (Mukut)
of the Lord Giriraj and the other one outlining the lotus face (Mukharvinda)
of Lord Giriraj and thus temple is called as Mukut Mukharvinda temple. These
Govardhan shilas are worshipped and revered equivalent to the idols and lots of
pilgrims daily come here to offer their prayers. The temple walls are decorated
with paintings of Lord Krishna’s pastimes. Surrounding the actual temple there
are lots of shops selling milk, curd and sweets for offering to lord Giriraj
Shila....
