94. Maan Mandir

Mana means jealous anger. This place located on the top of the Brahmagiri Parvat marks the Mana (lover’s anger) pastime of Sri Radharani. According to the pastime legend, once Sri Radharani was waiting for the arrival of Krishna. But Krishna was too late. Soon, Radharani’s pet parrot arrived and told her about Krishna’s meeting with a beautiful Gopi named Chandravali which was the reason for his late arrival. Listening to this, Radha was filled with anger and in a fit of jealousy she came to this secluded place and hides herself. When Krishna arrived there, he was worried to see Radharani in such a distraught state. He tried a lot to pacify her anger but failed. Radharani even denied talking to him. Failing to soothe Radha’s anger Krishna went from there and came to Vishakha Sakhi. On realizing Krishna’s concern Vishakha Sakhi suggested him to dress like a Gopi. When Krishna was dressed as a Gopi Vishakha named him as Shyama Gopi and took him with her to Radha. She told Radha that Shyama Gopi is her new friend and she sings very well. Radha was pleased to meet this new Gopi and asked her to sing and play Vina. Krishna then sang lots of love songs for the pleasure of Radharani. Radharani was so much mesmerized by the voice of Shyama Gopi that she embraced her. Soon, on touching her body Radharani realized that Shyama Gopi is none other than her beloved Krishna. She was so much absorbed in the loving pastime with Krishna that her anger for him was totally disappeared. The place where this loving pastime took place is commemorated with a small shrine named as Maan Kutir. Apart from this, there is a swing where the divine couple enjoyed the Swinging pastime with gopis and also a rasa mandala where the transcendental pastime of Rasalila took place at Managada peak.
